Diversity and Inclusion Programs that boost performance

Harvard Business Review research shows that having a diverse and inclusive workforce improves business performance and is crucial to attracting talents. A McKinsey study, Why Diversity Matters, revealed that gender diverse companies are 15 per cent more likely to outperform others. Ethnically diverse companies are 25 per cent more likely to outperform.
D&I programs are becoming standard in the utility sector. However a recent survey of some of Australia's most diversity-aware companies shows only 41 per cent of them are actually measuring the effectiveness of their programs. That implies some companies are probably paying lip service to the D&I goals and missing out on the benefits of a truly diverse and inclusive workforce.
For example, even though women comprise roughly half of the workforce, they remain notably underrepresented in the utility tech sector. The issue isn’t simply about technology education, it may also concern education about what tech jobs entail. Seeing women already working in technology sector presenting at events will certainly help to break the stereotypes.
Does your utility run a successful D&I program? Do you know of D&I presenters who would be willing to share perspectives in a public forum?  Write to me here: rod.mclauchlan@clarionevents.com
